Bonteheuwel High school

a non-fee-paying government school. This school has a dedicated principal and staff who together move mountains for the school, which is involved in various empowerment projects, feeding schemes and Global Exploration projects. This school has produced many ‘unsung heroes’ who made huge sacrifices for the freedom of our country; one such learner was Ashley Kriel; who is recognized as the quintessential representative of student & youth leadership of the 1980’s from the Cape Flats. In his first address on his release from prison, Nelson Mandela saluted Ashley Kriel, who amongst others, paid the ultimate price for freedom of all South Africans. Shaunez Benting, a recognised artist from this school and community, painted a huge mural hung in this school hall, which accurately depicts the student up rise in the mid 1980’s lead by Ashley Kriel.
