This is a small community of about 20 thousand people, located in a region which is predominantly farmland. Unemployment, drugs and moral decay is deep rooted in this community, which has approximately 300 children who are younger than 6 years old and who are mostly neglected. The children of this community have been ‘adopted’ by a local foundation who have links in the U.S.A and who currently provide daily meals to these children. Plans are underway to build a community centre which will serve as a day care facility where the children can be fed, made to be school ready, taught basic skills, etc. A visit to Egoli will include interactive engagement with a representative of the local organization and a tour of the facility (which is currently being built).
